Wood Essentials was founded in 2000 by Jerry Middleton, a New York City-based designer and cabinetmaker, after a client called him with a request: Would he create a custom-made, traditional wood medicine cabinet for her Manhattan apartment? She had searched far and wide, she explained, but hadn’t found one that met her high standards for design and construction. She wanted only premium-quality cabinetry for her bathroom renovation, and the mahogany medicine cabinet she had in mind just didn’t seem to exist.
Jerry agreed to take the assignment, though he felt sure there had to be a suitable medicine cabinet out there somewhere. After he’d completed his work, however, two things happened. First, he stepped back and thought, Gee, this really is a good-looking, handcrafted bathroom cabinet. And second, he discovered that the made-to-order cabinet was, indeed, unlike any other on the market.
Recognizing a niche waiting to be filled, Jerry launched Wood Essentials to meet the demand for traditional, handcrafted medicine cabinets. Since then, Wood Essentials medicine cabinets have become the choice of architects, interior designers, builders, and discerning homeowners who value their timeless design and handmade quality. Wood Essentials medicine cabinets continue to be custom-made to order at Jerry’s workshop in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and are shipped all over the U.S. They’re available direct from the company and through select bath stores. Retailer inquiries are always welcome.
